Boat Mishap : Two dead, three rescued as boat capsized in Lagos

Two passengers have been confirmed dead in a boat mishap at Ipakan Boat Jetty, Egbin Ikorodu Lagos State.

The mishap occurred at the above location saturday 29th of June, 2019 when the boat was enroute from Badore (Ajah) to Egbin (Ikorodu) with between 17 and 21 passengers on board.
The boat allegedly capsized due to overloading. It was gathered that the boat was overturned by the heavy current.
3 persons were rescued and were taken to hospital while two persons confirmed dead.

The Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said two corpses have been recovered while rescue operation was ongoing.

The accident happened around 7.38pm and the passengers boarded the boat at Lekki and were going to Egbin, in Ijede. They were very close to Egbin when the accident happened. The rescue operation is still  ongoing.”

LASEMA said rescue and recovery efforts continue for the other missing passengers by
LASEMA and operatives of the Lagos State Water Agency and the Marine Division of the Nigeria Police.
